Roof Repair in Bayside, NY

Owner-diagnosed roof leaks since 1989 | Licensed and insured

Get in Touch

BelleRose has been repairing roofs in Bayside since the company started in 1989. Every leak call gets the owner, Donall Fingleton, on site to find the source. He has been reading roofs in this part of Queens for 37 years.

Bayside runs from mid-century capes to larger colonials and split-levels. Homes near Little Neck Bay and the waterfront deal with wind off the water and salt air, which is hard on flashing, fasteners and exposed metal.

Common Roof Leaks on Bayside Homes

Corroded flashing near the water

Galvanized flashing and nails corrode faster in salt air. On homes closer to the bay, rusted step flashing, pipe collars and drip edge are common leak sources. We replace them with aluminum or copper that holds up better in those conditions.

Wind-lifted shingles at edges and ridges

Wind coming off the water lifts shingles at the rakes, corners and ridge first, especially on older roofs where the seal strips have dried out. Once a tab lifts, rain gets under it. These repairs are usually quick if they are done before the next storm.

Split-level and colonial roof junctions

Where a lower roof meets an upper wall, or a porch roof ties into the main house, the flashing has to be layered correctly behind the siding. When it is not, water runs into the wall. We open up that joint and flash it the right way.

How We Find the Leak

A water stain on the ceiling almost never sits directly under the hole. Water hits the decking, runs along a rafter or the top of a wall, and drips wherever it finds a low spot. That is why patching the shingles above the stain so often fails.

When you call, Donall comes to your Bayside home himself. He looks at the stain, goes into the attic when there is access, follows the water marks back up the decking, and then checks the roof at the flashing, valleys, chimney and penetrations above it. You get a straight answer on where the water is coming in and what it takes to stop it, with a written, itemized estimate before any work starts.

Typical repairs include chimney and step flashing, valley replacement, lifted or missing shingles, pipe boots and vents, and flat roof seams and drains. Slate and cedar roofs get repaired with matching material. See our slate and cedar pages for more on those.

Before We Get There

If water is coming in right now, a few things limit the damage until the roof is fixed:

  • Put a bucket under the drip and move furniture, rugs and electronics out of the way.
  • If a ceiling is bulging with water, keep people out from under it.
  • Take photos of the stain and any damage outside. They help with insurance.
  • Stay off the roof. Wet shingles and slate are slippery, and walking on them can make the damage worse.

Our hours are Mon - Sat 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Sunday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Call during those hours and we usually get back to you within the hour.

Roof Repair Questions From Bayside

Does living near the water in Bayside change how a roof should be repaired?

Yes. Salt air corrodes standard galvanized flashing and fasteners faster. On homes close to the bay we use corrosion-resistant metals for flashing and pay more attention to how edges and ridges are fastened against wind.

Are you licensed to work on roofs in Bayside?

Yes. Bayside is in New York City, and we hold a New York City Home Improvement Contractor license (LIC# 1259922).

Who actually comes out to look at my roof in Bayside?

The owner, Donall Fingleton. He has done every estimate and every leak diagnosis since he started the company in 1989. No sales reps and no one reading from a checklist.

Will you tell me if I need a new roof instead of a repair?

Yes, but only if that is what the roof needs. If the leak is isolated and the rest of the roof has years left, we repair it. If the roof is past its life and leaking in several places, we will say so and explain why. See our roofing page for Bayside for replacement work.
