Roof Repair in Bellerose, NY
Owner-diagnosed roof leaks since 1989 | Licensed and insured
Get in TouchBellerose is just over the Queens line from our Floral Park office, and it is where the company name comes from. Roof repair is what BelleRose was founded on in 1989, and the owner, Donall Fingleton, still does every leak diagnosis himself.
Bellerose is mostly pre-war brick colonials and Cape Cods, many with a detached garage at the back of the lot. Brick homes leak in their own ways. The roof can be in decent shape while water comes in through the masonry and flashing around it.
Common Roof Leaks on Bellerose Homes
Brick chimney and wall counterflashing
On brick homes the counterflashing is set into the mortar joints. When the joints wash out, water gets behind the flashing and runs down inside the brick. We regrind the joints, reset the counterflashing and replace any rusted step flashing below it.
Detached garage roofs
Detached garages in Bellerose often have low-slope or flat roofs that nobody looks at until the ceiling sags. Ponding water, split seams and rotted fascia boards are common. These are usually straightforward repairs if they are caught before the decking goes.
Rear additions and porch roofs
Many homes here had a back porch enclosed or a kitchen extended at some point. The joint where the newer low roof meets the original brick wall is a frequent leak source, especially when the flashing was only caulked to the face of the brick.
How We Find the Leak
A water stain on the ceiling almost never sits directly under the hole. Water hits the decking, runs along a rafter or the top of a wall, and drips wherever it finds a low spot. That is why patching the shingles above the stain so often fails.
When you call, Donall comes to your Bellerose home himself. He looks at the stain, goes into the attic when there is access, follows the water marks back up the decking, and then checks the roof at the flashing, valleys, chimney and penetrations above it. You get a straight answer on where the water is coming in and what it takes to stop it, with a written, itemized estimate before any work starts.
Typical repairs include chimney and step flashing, valley replacement, lifted or missing shingles, pipe boots and vents, and flat roof seams and drains. Slate and cedar roofs get repaired with matching material. See our slate and cedar pages for more on those.
Before We Get There
If water is coming in right now, a few things limit the damage until the roof is fixed:
- Put a bucket under the drip and move furniture, rugs and electronics out of the way.
- If a ceiling is bulging with water, keep people out from under it.
- Take photos of the stain and any damage outside. They help with insurance.
- Stay off the roof. Wet shingles and slate are slippery, and walking on them can make the damage worse.
Our hours are Mon - Sat 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Sunday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Call during those hours and we usually get back to you within the hour.

Roof Repair Questions From Bellerose
Are you licensed to do roof repair in Bellerose, Queens?
Yes. Bellerose is in New York City, and we hold a New York City Home Improvement Contractor license (LIC# 1259922). We also hold Nassau County and Floral Park licenses for work on the other side of the line.
My brick house has a leak but the roof looks fine. Can you still help?
Yes, and it is one of the most common calls we get from Bellerose. On brick homes the water often comes in through open mortar joints or failed counterflashing at a chimney or wall rather than through the shingles. Finding that is the job.
Who actually comes out to look at my roof in Bellerose?
The owner, Donall Fingleton. He has done every estimate and every leak diagnosis since he started the company in 1989. No sales reps and no one reading from a checklist.
Will you tell me if I need a new roof instead of a repair?
Yes, but only if that is what the roof needs. If the leak is isolated and the rest of the roof has years left, we repair it. If the roof is past its life and leaking in several places, we will say so and explain why. See our roofing page for Bellerose for replacement work.
