Roof Repair in New Hyde Park, NY
Owner-diagnosed roof leaks since 1989 | Licensed and insured
Get in TouchNew Hyde Park is a few minutes from our Floral Park office, and we have been fixing roofs here since 1989. When you call about a leak, the owner, Donall Fingleton, is the one who comes out, gets into the attic and finds where the water is actually coming from.
New Hyde Park is mostly postwar ranches, capes and split-levels, and many are on their second or third roof. That history matters. A lot of these roofs were put on over the old layer instead of being stripped, which hides problems and makes leaks harder to trace.
Common Roof Leaks on New Hyde Park Homes
Roof-overs hiding the real problem
When a new layer of shingles goes over an old one, the original flashing usually stays in place underneath. Water can travel between the layers and come out far from where it went in. We trace it back from the attic side before deciding what to open up.
Low-pitch ranch roofs and ice dams
Ranches with a low pitch shed snow slowly, and many have little attic ventilation. Heat melts the snow, the water refreezes at the eaves and backs up under the shingles. Fixing the leak is half of it. The other half is the ventilation that caused it.
Split-level roof-to-wall joints
On a split-level, the lower roof dies into the wall of the upper level. If the step flashing and kickout at the bottom of that wall are missing or rusted out, water gets into the wall and the room below.
How We Find the Leak
A water stain on the ceiling almost never sits directly under the hole. Water hits the decking, runs along a rafter or the top of a wall, and drips wherever it finds a low spot. That is why patching the shingles above the stain so often fails.
When you call, Donall comes to your New Hyde Park home himself. He looks at the stain, goes into the attic when there is access, follows the water marks back up the decking, and then checks the roof at the flashing, valleys, chimney and penetrations above it. You get a straight answer on where the water is coming in and what it takes to stop it, with a written, itemized estimate before any work starts.
Typical repairs include chimney and step flashing, valley replacement, lifted or missing shingles, pipe boots and vents, and flat roof seams and drains. Slate and cedar roofs get repaired with matching material. See our slate and cedar pages for more on those.
Before We Get There
If water is coming in right now, a few things limit the damage until the roof is fixed:
- Put a bucket under the drip and move furniture, rugs and electronics out of the way.
- If a ceiling is bulging with water, keep people out from under it.
- Take photos of the stain and any damage outside. They help with insurance.
- Stay off the roof. Wet shingles and slate are slippery, and walking on them can make the damage worse.
Our hours are Mon - Sat 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Sunday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Call during those hours and we usually get back to you within the hour.

Roof Repair Questions From New Hyde Park
My New Hyde Park house has two layers of shingles. Can it still be repaired?
Often yes. A leak on a two-layer roof can usually be repaired in place if it is localized. If the leaks keep moving or the decking is soft, it may be time to strip both layers. We will tell you which one you are dealing with after we look at it.
Why does my ceiling only leak in the winter?
That pattern usually points to ice dams rather than a hole in the roof. Snow melts over the warm part of the house, refreezes at the colder eaves and backs water up under the shingles. We look at the eaves, the attic insulation and the ventilation to fix the cause, not just the stain.
Who actually comes out to look at my roof in New Hyde Park?
The owner, Donall Fingleton. He has done every estimate and every leak diagnosis since he started the company in 1989. No sales reps and no one reading from a checklist.
Will you tell me if I need a new roof instead of a repair?
Yes, but only if that is what the roof needs. If the leak is isolated and the rest of the roof has years left, we repair it. If the roof is past its life and leaking in several places, we will say so and explain why. See our roofing page for New Hyde Park for replacement work.
